Und wieder ein interessanter Song, der mir im Kopf herumspukt, mit interessantem Video und nettem Hintergrund, der Song fängt allerdings erst bei Minute 1:22 an………

Dieser Song ist zum einen eine Ode an die wahre Freundschaft, als auch eine Beschreibung des beschleunigten, emotionslosen Umgang in den sozialen Netzwerken,  Brian Molko, der Sänger, hat zu viele Freunde, die er niemals trifft und für die er nicht da sein kann. Davon singt er nicht nur in diesem Song mit seiner Band Placebo, damit beschreibt er gleichzeitig auch einen aus Technologie und Gesellschaftsgefüge geschaffenen Zustand: Seit jeder ein Smartphone in der Tasche hat, starrt jeder Besitzer lieber auf dessen Bildschirm, als sich wirklich mit seinem Gegenüber zu beschäftigen.
Jeder der eine Schulklasse auf einer Klassenfahrt begleitet hat, weiß wovon ich hier schreibe.
Brian Molko und seine Band haben aus dieser Problematik ihren Song gemacht: Im neuen Video zu „Too Many Friends“ sieht man nichts außer Textzeilen vor einem Geschäftsmann, der samt seines Telefons ins Wasser fällt – und plötzlich nur noch Stille und Beklemmung zu fühlen scheint………

„Too Many Friends“ is a single by the alternative rock band Placebo, the first single of their seventh studio album Loud Like Love. The song deals with people on the internet and being far more close to friends on the internet, rather than off the computer. It is also about loneliness, which Placebo frontman Brian Molko said was the „modern version of, ‚I’m sitting by the phone, waiting for you to call.'“ Everybody who has followed a class on a school trip knows what I´m describing here.
In the new video „Too Many Friends“ you can´t see anything except text lines in front of a businessman who falls along with his phone into the water – and suddenly he feels only silence and anxiety ………
